Military Earplugs
3M Earplugs
Thousands of military service members have sustained hearing loss due to defective earplugs that were given to them during service from 2003 – 2015. Dual-Ended Combat ArmsTM Earplugs, Version 2 (CAEv2) were used as typical earplugs blocking and reducing noise. The second side of the dual ended earplugs also functioned to provide normal hearing while cancelling noise from gunfire and explosions.
These earplugs manufactured by 3M have been found to be too short for proper insertions, putting the user at risk for partial or complete hearing loss and tinnitus, a ringing or buzzing in the ears. The Department of Justice concluded that the stem of the earplug is not long enough to correctly fit in the ear. The improper design causes them to gradually loosen rendering them essentially useless.
3M and its predecessor Aearo Technologies were aware of their design problems in 2000. This was years before the earplugs were standard use in the military. 3M was aware the earplugs failed to pass many safety tests, but still sold the faulty device to the U.S. military.
Johnson Law Group is fighting to ensure all military members get the justice and compensation they deserve for hearing damage.
3M sold Combat Arms Earplugs Version 2 (CAEv2) without revealing the defects of the product. Because of this they have put service members at risk for hearing loss and tinnitus. Service members who have tinnitus or hearing loss from blasts or explosions may be entitled to substantial compensation for their hearing damage.
The defective earplugs may be the cause of the significant hearing loss that many veterans who have served overseas and stateside service members who have trained using the device are now suffering from.
